Interpol Rejects Russia’s Politically Motivated Warrant and Rules in Favour of William Browder

Inter­pol has reject­ed Russia’s attempt to mis­use Inter­pol sys­tems against William Brow­der, the leader of the world­wide cam­paign for jus­tice for Sergei Mag­nit­sky, by delet­ing its request from the Interpol’s channels.
“The deci­sion by Inter­pol to delete the Russ­ian “all points bul­letin” for William Brow­der from the Inter­pol sys­tem is a clear sign that a deeply cor­rupt regime will not be allowed to freely per­se­cute whis­tle-blow­ers who have exposed it. We hope that one day those respon­si­ble for Sergei Magnisky’s tor­ture and mur­der will be brought to jus­tice, with help from Inter­pol,” said a Her­mitage Cap­i­tal rep­re­sen­ta­tive. Read more

German Justice Ministry Rejects Russian Interpol Request for William Browder

The Ger­man Jus­tice Min­istry has reject­ed the Russ­ian request sent via Inter­pol in rela­tion to William Brow­der, and assured him of an intim­i­da­tion-free atten­dance at the human rights forum planned in Berlin, Ger­many, for this com­ing Mon­day, 27^th May 2013 (www.bhrc.de).
“The deci­sion by the Ger­man Jus­tice Min­istry is a strong act in sup­port of human rights and against polit­i­cal abuse. It shows that Ger­many, along with its West­ern allies, will not be intim­i­dat­ed by the cor­rupt mis­use of inter­na­tion­al jus­tice mech­a­nisms by the Putin regime for polit­i­cal pur­pos­es,” said William Brow­der. Norway Recommends Bringing Magnitsky Sanctions to the UN Security Council

Nor­we­gian For­eign Affairs Min­is­ter Espen Barth Eide has rec­om­mend­ed bring­ing the issue of Mag­nit­sky sanc­tions to the UN Secu­ri­ty Coun­cil. Respond­ing to a group of Nor­we­gian par­lia­men­tar­i­ans, Min­is­ter Eide point­ed out that the deci­sions of the UN Coun­cil are bind­ing on all UN mem­ber states and would be a prop­er forum to con­sid­er the issue of sanc­tions and asset freezes in rela­tion to Russ­ian offi­cials in the Mag­nit­sky case, as opposed to an indi­vid­ual action by Norway.

Норвегия предлагает рассмотреть вопрос о санкциях в отношении российских чиновников по делу Магнитского на уровне Совета безопасности ООН

Министр иностранных дел Норвегии предложил обсудить вопрос о санкциях в отношении российских чиновников по делу Магнитского на Совете безопасности ООН. Как подчеркнул министр, резолюции Совета безопасности ООН являются обязательными к исполнению для всех стран-членов ООН, в отличие от точечных действий отдельных стран.

В письме к группе норвежских депутатов Министр Эспен Барт Эйде подчеркнул, что дело Магнитского наряду с иными резонансными делами «ставит вопрос о независимости российской правовой системы». Read more

В Берлине отменено мероприятие по Европейскому закону Магнитского из-за отказа властей Германии предоставить гарантии безопасности Уильяму Браудеру

Запланированное в Берлине на следующей неделе мероприятие, посвященное разработке европейского закона Магнитского, отменено в связи с отказом властей Германии предоставить гарантии безопасного нахождения Уильяму Браудеру. 

Мероприятие под названием «Время для Европейского закона Магнитского» было организовано при поддержке Института культурной дипломатии и депутата Европарламента Кристины Оюланд и должно было состояться в ближайший понедельник в Берлине в рамках симпозиума «Культурная дипломатия и права человека» (www.bhrc.de). Уильям Браудер был заявлен в качестве основного докладчика. Однако в связи с отказом властей Германии гарантировать Уильяму Браудеру безопасное нахождение на территории страны, организаторы были вынуждены отменить намеченное мероприятие. Read more
