A group of Russian civil rights activists demonstrated in front of the US and UK embassies in Moscow in support of the “The Magnitsky list” — which imposes targeted visa sanctions and asset freezes on Russian officials involved in corruption and gross human rights abuse. The sanctions became law last year in the US with the passage of the Sergei Magnitsky Rule of Law Accountability Act by an overwhelming bi-partisan majority in Congress. Read more
Sergei Magnitsky’s Mother Demands Public Apology for Defaming her Son From Chairman of Duma’s Foreign Affairs Committee

The mother of Sergei Magnitsky has demanded a public apology from Alexei Pushkov, MP, chairman of the Russian State Duma’s Foreign Affairs Committee, who publicly stated that Sergei Magnitsky “was no fighter with corruption” and that it “was not determined” that he had died from beating in recent statements to the Russian and international press. Sergei Magnitsky Is Expected to Be Found Guilty in the First Ever Posthumous Trial in Russian History

Today, at the Tverskoi district court in Moscow, judge Igor Alisov, is expected to find Sergei Magnitsky guilty of tax evasion in the first ever posthumous trial in Russian history. Russian Prosecutor Seeks Moscow Court to Declare Sergei Magnitsky Guilty and Not Be Rehabilitated in First Posthumous Trial in Russian History

Today, the Russian prosecutor has asked the Tverskoi court in Moscow to declare that Sergei Magnitsky was guilty and that he should be refused rehabilitation. The request was made during the last session of the trial of Sergei Magnitsky who has been deceased for three and a half years after being tortured and killed in police custody.
The prosecutor asked the court not to apply any punishment to Sergei Magnitsky, and to cease the case with the verdict of guilty and no chance of future rehabilitation.
“Magnitsky is fully incriminated, and there are no grounds for his rehabilitation,” said prosecutor according to Interfax news agency (http://www.interfax.ru/russia/txt.asp?id=316392). Read more
Council of Europe’s Rapporteur Presents Explosive 41-Page Report on the Magnitsky Affair Completely Rubbishing the Russian Government’s Version of Events

Today, the Council of Europe’s Rapporteur, Andreas Gross MP, presented the results of a detailed six-month review of the torture and death of Sergei Magnitsky in Russian state custody and the state sanctioned cover-up which followed. His 41-page report entitled, “Refusing Impunity for the Killers of Sergei Magnitsky,” was presented to the Human Rights and Legal Affairs Committee of the Council of Europe this morning.
The report labels as “unacceptable” the ongoing impunity of those responsible for Mr Magnitsky’s death and for the largest known theft of public funds in Russian history that Magnitsky had exposed. Read more
