German Justice Ministry Rejects Russian Interpol Request for William Browder

The Ger­man Jus­tice Min­istry has reject­ed the Russ­ian request sent via Inter­pol in rela­tion to William Brow­der, and assured him of an intim­i­da­tion-free atten­dance at the human rights forum planned in Berlin, Ger­many, for this com­ing Mon­day, 27th May 2013 (www.bhrc.de).
“The deci­sion by the Ger­man Jus­tice Min­istry is a strong act in sup­port of human rights and against polit­i­cal abuse. It shows that Ger­many, along with its West­ern allies, will not be intim­i­dat­ed by the cor­rupt mis­use of inter­na­tion­al jus­tice mech­a­nisms by the Putin regime for polit­i­cal pur­pos­es,” said William Brow­der. Russia Abuses Interpol Channels with an ‘All Points Bulletin’ For William Browder in Retaliation for Magnitsky Act

On 7 May 2013, the Russ­ian Inte­ri­or Min­istry issued a for­mal request to Inter­pol to issue an ‘All Points Bul­letin’ to locate William Brow­der, CEO of Her­mitage Cap­i­tal Man­age­ment and leader of the jus­tice for Sergei Mag­nit­sky campaign. 

The Russ­ian author­i­ties seek to involve Inter­pol in an abu­sive, and polit­i­cal­ly moti­vat­ed attack on Mr Brow­der. Any­one offer­ing the Russ­ian Inte­ri­or Min­istry sup­port, or in any way pro­cess­ing their request in rela­tion to Mr Brow­der, will become part and par­cel of Mr Putin’s polit­i­cal vendet­ta against Mr Brow­der and attempts to cov­er up the mur­der of Sergei Mag­nit­sky,” said a Her­mitage Cap­i­tal rep­re­sen­ta­tive. The Russian Government Congratulates Officials Responsible for Sergei Magnitsky’s False Arrest, Detention and Death in Custody

Yes­ter­day, Russ­ian Pres­i­dent Vladimir Putin and top offi­cials from the Russ­ian Inte­ri­or Min­istry, Jus­tice Min­istry and the Moscow Court pub­licly con­doned the acts of the offi­cials who were named by the U.S. Gov­ern­ment for their role in the Mag­nit­sky affair. 

Russ­ian Inte­ri­or Min­is­ter Vladimir Kolokolt­sev offi­cial­ly greet­ed six of the sanc­tioned Inte­ri­or Min­istry offi­cers in a tele­vised meet­ing at the Inte­ri­or Min­istry head­quar­ters where he promised them impuni­ty and pro­mo­tion prospects. The offi­cers present were Colonel Vino­grado­va, Lt Colonel Silchenko and Lt Colonel Kar­pov, and three more sanc­tioned offi­cers who were pre­sum­ably Lt Colonel Kuznetsov, and his two for­mer sub­or­di­nates, oper­a­tives Droganov and Tolchin­sky. Accord­ing to Russ­ian press reports, the Inte­ri­or Min­is­ter said to the offi­cials at the meeting:
“Deci­sions by for­eign states con­cern­ing our cit­i­zens should not and will not have any legal con­se­quence;” “I con­firm again: regard­ing our offi­cial posi­tion, let those type of deci­sions not give you any wor­ry.” Read more
