UK Author­i­ties Refused Russ­ian Mutu­al Legal Assis­tance Request in Mag­nit­sky Posthu­mous Pros­e­cu­tion Case

2 July 2012 – The Russ­ian Inte­ri­or Min­istry report­ed this morn­ing that the UK author­i­ties had refused their mutu­al legal assis­tance request in the case of posthu­mous pros­e­cu­tion of late whis­tle-blow­ing lawyer Sergei Mag­nit­sky and in-absen­tia pros­e­cu­tion of his client William Brow­der who is cam­paign­ing for tar­get­ed visa and finan­cial sanc­tions on the Russ­ian gov­ern­ment offi­cials involved in the false arrest, tor­ture and in-cus­tody mur­der of Magnitsky. 

In spite of the refusal from the UK to coop­er­ate in this high-pro­file mat­ter, the Russ­ian Inte­ri­or Min­istry stat­ed their inten­tion to move the first-in-his­to­ry posthu­mous case to tri­al, say­ing they see no “legal” obsta­cle to it. Read more

Members of German Parliament Call For German and EU-Wide Visa Bans and Asset Freezes on Russian Officials Implicated in the Magnitsky Case

Fol­low­ing the Mag­nit­sky Act’s approval by the U.S. Sen­ate For­eign Rela­tions Com­mit­tee, a num­ber of Ger­man law­mak­ers have adopt­ed a sim­i­lar res­o­lu­tion call­ing for the Ger­man gov­ern­ment to ini­ti­ate both a Ger­man and EU-wide visa ban and asset freeze on the Russ­ian offi­cials impli­cat­ed in the Mag­nit­sky case.

The motion enti­tled “Denial of Entry into the EU for the Russ­ian Par­tic­i­pants in the Mag­nit­sky Case” was adopt­ed by mem­bers of the Alliance 90/The Greens fac­tion in the Ger­man par­lia­ment (http://www.bundestag.de/presse/hib/2012_06/2012_325/03.html). Read more

Вслед за принятием Сенатским комитетом США законопроекта Магнитского, представители партии «Союз-90/Зеленые» в немецком Бундестаге одобрили внутрипартийную резолюцию о необходимости введения визовых и экономических санкций в отношении лиц, причастных к делу юриста Her­mitage Сергея Магнитского, убитого в следственном изоляторе два с половиной года назад (http://www.bundestag.de/presse/hib/2012_06/2012_325/03.html).

В обращении представителей фракции «Союз-90/Зеленые» в немецком парламенте подчеркивается:

«Оценка дела Her­mitage была дана еще в период с 2008 по 2009 год нынешним Министром юстиции Германии Сабиной Лейтхойзер-Шнаренбергер. Будучи в это время официальным спецдокладчиком Совета Европы, она указала, что Her­mitage Cap­i­tal стал жертвой коррупции и сговора высокопоставленных чиновников и организованных преступников.» Read more

Cенатор Маккейн указывает на преступный синдикат Клюева как угрозу национальной безопасности США

Американский сенатор Джон Маккейн обратился к Президенту США Бараку Обаме с предложением приравнять преступный синдикат, связанный с раскрытыми погибшим юристом Сергеем Магнитским хищениями бюджетных денег и их легализацией через западные банки, к транснациональному криминальному сообществу и ввести в отношении него соответствующие санкции. 

В письме сенатора Маккейна Президенту США говорится: «Сегодня я обращаюсь к Вам с целью начала процесса оценки необходимости введения специальных санкций, предусмотренных президентским указом №13581, в отношении опасной транснациональной преступной организации, известной как «группа Клюева»». Senator McCain Calls Upon President Obama to Apply Aggressive New Sanctions Designed to Combat Terrorism to the Russian Organized Crime Group Who Murdered Sergei Magnitsky

Today U.S. Sen­a­tor John McCain called on Pres­i­dent Oba­ma to invoke Exec­u­tive Order 13581 against the Klyuev Orga­nized Crime Group in Rus­sia con­nect­ed to the mur­der of whis­tle-blow­ing lawyer Sergei Mag­nit­sky. Exec­u­tive Order 13581 was signed by Pres­i­dent Oba­ma in July last year and allows the Pres­i­dent to “pro­scribe” orga­nized crime groups using the same tools that the US Gov­ern­ment cur­rent­ly uses against ter­ror­ist organizations. 

“I write to you today to request that you begin a process to deter­mine whether to des­ig­nate and impose sanc­tions, under the Exec­u­tive Order 13581, against a dan­ger­ous transna­tion­al crim­i­nal orga­ni­za­tion known as the “Klyuev Group ‚” said Sen­a­tor McCain in the let­ter. Read more
