Russia Abuses Interpol Channels with an ‘All Points Bulletin’ For William Browder in Retaliation for Magnitsky Act

On 7 May 2013, the Russian Interior Ministry issued a formal request to Interpol to issue an ‘All Points Bulletin’ to locate William Browder, CEO of Hermitage Capital Management and leader of the justice for Sergei Magnitsky campaign.
“The Russian authorities seek to involve Interpol in an abusive, and politically motivated attack on Mr Browder. Anyone offering the Russian Interior Ministry support, or in any way processing their request in relation to Mr Browder, will become part and parcel of Mr Putin’s political vendetta against Mr Browder and attempts to cover up the murder of Sergei Magnitsky,” said a Hermitage Capital representative. Как стало известно сегодня, еще 7 мая 2013 года Национальное бюро Интерпола России, входящее в состав МВД России, направило запрос в страны-члены Интерпола с просьбой «сообщить» о местонахождении Уильяма Браудера с целью его задержания на границе и создания препятствий для его международной кампании по введению санкций в отношении коррумпированных российских чиновников по всему миру.
«Своим решением задействовать каналы международной организации Интерпол сотрудники МВД нарушили основополагающие принципы деятельности этой организации и ее Конституции, запрещающей использование Интерпола в политически мотивированных преследованиях людей», — сказал представитель Hermitage Capital. The Russian Government Congratulates Officials Responsible for Sergei Magnitsky’s False Arrest, Detention and Death in Custody

Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and top officials from the Russian Interior Ministry, Justice Ministry and the Moscow Court publicly condoned the acts of the officials who were named by the U.S. Government for their role in the Magnitsky affair.
Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev officially greeted six of the sanctioned Interior Ministry officers in a televised meeting at the Interior Ministry headquarters where he promised them impunity and promotion prospects. The officers present were Colonel Vinogradova, Lt Colonel Silchenko and Lt Colonel Karpov, and three more sanctioned officers who were presumably Lt Colonel Kuznetsov, and his two former subordinates, operatives Droganov and Tolchinsky. According to Russian press reports, the Interior Minister said to the officials at the meeting:
“Decisions by foreign states concerning our citizens should not and will not have any legal consequence;” “I confirm again: regarding our official position, let those type of decisions not give you any worry.” (more…)

Diplomatic Representatives of Five European Countries Say Posthumous Trial of Sergei Magnitsky in Russia is “Unacceptable”

Diplomatic representatives of five European countries have expressed concern over the on-going posthumous trial of Sergei Magnitsky, killed in Russian police custody three years ago, and the recent closure of the investigation into his death in Russia (http://www.rijksoverheid.nl/bestanden/documenten-en-publicaties/brieven/2013/03/18/brief-over-de-opstelling-van-rusland-in-de-zaak-magnitsky/brief-over-de-opstelling-van-rusland-in-de-zaak-magnitsky.pdf).
In a letter addressed to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, five permanent representatives from the UK, Germany, Holland, Sweden, and the Czech Republic have asked for the Magnitsky case to be raised with Russia authorities. (more…)
