Interpol Rejects Russia’s Politically Motivated Warrant and Rules in Favour of William Browder

Interpol has rejected Russia’s attempt to misuse Interpol systems against William Browder, the leader of the worldwide campaign for justice for Sergei Magnitsky, by deleting its request from the Interpol’s channels.
“The decision by Interpol to delete the Russian “all points bulletin” for William Browder from the Interpol system is a clear sign that a deeply corrupt regime will not be allowed to freely persecute whistle-blowers who have exposed it. We hope that one day those responsible for Sergei Magnisky’s torture and murder will be brought to justice, with help from Interpol,” said a Hermitage Capital representative. Read more
German Justice Ministry Rejects Russian Interpol Request for William Browder

The German Justice Ministry has rejected the Russian request sent via Interpol in relation to William Browder, and assured him of an intimidation-free attendance at the human rights forum planned in Berlin, Germany, for this coming Monday, 27th May 2013 (www.bhrc.de).
“The decision by the German Justice Ministry is a strong act in support of human rights and against political abuse. It shows that Germany, along with its Western allies, will not be intimidated by the corrupt misuse of international justice mechanisms by the Putin regime for political purposes,” said William Browder. Norway Recommends Bringing Magnitsky Sanctions to the UN Security Council

Norwegian Foreign Affairs Minister Espen Barth Eide has recommended bringing the issue of Magnitsky sanctions to the UN Security Council. Responding to a group of Norwegian parliamentarians, Minister Eide pointed out that the decisions of the UN Council are binding on all UN member states and would be a proper forum to consider the issue of sanctions and asset freezes in relation to Russian officials in the Magnitsky case, as opposed to an individual action by Norway.

Министр иностранных дел Норвегии предложил обсудить вопрос о санкциях в отношении российских чиновников по делу Магнитского на Совете безопасности ООН. Как подчеркнул министр, резолюции Совета безопасности ООН являются обязательными к исполнению для всех стран-членов ООН, в отличие от точечных действий отдельных стран.
В письме к группе норвежских депутатов Министр Эспен Барт Эйде подчеркнул, что дело Магнитского наряду с иными резонансными делами «ставит вопрос о независимости российской правовой системы». Read more
В Берлине отменено мероприятие по Европейскому закону Магнитского из-за отказа властей Германии предоставить гарантии безопасности Уильяму Браудеру

Запланированное в Берлине на следующей неделе мероприятие, посвященное разработке европейского закона Магнитского, отменено в связи с отказом властей Германии предоставить гарантии безопасного нахождения Уильяму Браудеру.
Мероприятие под названием «Время для Европейского закона Магнитского» было организовано при поддержке Института культурной дипломатии и депутата Европарламента Кристины Оюланд и должно было состояться в ближайший понедельник в Берлине в рамках симпозиума «Культурная дипломатия и права человека» (www.bhrc.de). Уильям Браудер был заявлен в качестве основного докладчика. Однако в связи с отказом властей Германии гарантировать Уильяму Браудеру безопасное нахождение на территории страны, организаторы были вынуждены отменить намеченное мероприятие. Read more
