William Browder to Testify in Dutch Parliament Calling for Magnitsky Sanctions in Holland and EU

In advance of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s trip to Holland on 8 April 2013, today, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Dutch Parliament will hold today hearings on the state of human rights in Russia. William Browder, the head of the global campaign for justice for Sergei Magnitsky, will present to Dutch lawmakers the developments in the Magnitsky case and their wider implications for the breakdown of the rule of law in Russia. In his testimony, Mr Browder will renew calls for national and EU sanctions on the Russian officials involved.
“There is simply no good argument to allow those responsible for the torture and murder in police custody to come to Holland or be allowed to use the financial system here,” said William Browder. Read more

Magnitsky’s Mother Asks Russian Press to Avoid Becoming an Accomplice in the Posthumous Trial of Her Son

Ahead of another day in the historic posthumous trial of Sergei Magnitsky in Moscow, Magnitsky’s mother has addressed the Russian press asking them to refrain from repeating false accusations that the state is making against her dead son. She called the trial today a “blasphemy” and “desecration of the memory of her son” organised in response to the Magnitsky Law passed in the United States. Read more

Magnitsky Family Rejects the Closure of the Death Investigation, Appeals to the European Court of Human Rights

The family of Sergei Magnitsky has rejected the claims of the Russian investigative authorities that there were no signs of crime in his death in custody at the age of 37.
“This [the decision by Russian authorities to close the case into the death of Sergei Magnitsky] was expected. I don’t believe that it is possible to obtain justice in Russia today because there are people in power interested in concealing it and someone is directing this process,” said the mother of Sergei Magnitsky.
